  • Enjoying our Children

    Our children grow up so fast.  People always tell me that one day you are bringing them home from the hospital and the next thing you know they are graduating from college.  I am finding that true already even though my oldest is only 6.  With each passing day they are maturing and mastering one more thing.  Some of these mastered tasks-

    Moreover, I will admit that having children so close in age can be difficult at times, however I still cherish all the special and not so special moments I share with them.  And while I encourage and celebrate their mastery of tasks and "firsts", there is a part of me that is saddened that they are growing up so fast.  I have been told to "not worry-they won't be this small and dependent forever."  But it does not worry me; I hold tight to these years.  I don't want them to slip away.  I want to capture and remember it all.

  • Father's Day 2009

     

    Father's Day 2009

    Instead of Father's Day, our family celebrated Father's Weekend.

    The weekend began with showering Daddy with homemade gifts and framed pictures that we painted.

    Saturday was spent watching the Rodeo/June Dairy Parade pass by our house and running through the sprinkler in our backyard.

    Sunday, after church, we spent our afternoon with Daddy and Grandpa Bruce fishing.

     Grandpa, AKA Peepa, and Daddy showed us how to bait our own hook and take fish off our line.

    Makayla caught and reeled in her Bass all by herself. 

     

    Ethan told us the story of how he tasted a worm-  In case you wondered, worms taste like rotten jelly!

     

     

    Grandpa also told us some of his "fishing secrets" and we promised not to tell anyone.

    We took our fish back to Grandma and Grandpa's to fry for supper.

    Father's Weekend was a great celebration.  We love our Daddy.  He is the best daddy in the world.

  • Simplicity

     Simplicity

    (My thoughts and Richard Foster's thoughts on Simplicity from his book "Celebration of Discipline")

    Simplicity is seeking GOD'S kingdom FIRST!

    Simplicity sets possessions in proper perspective.

    Simplicity is receiving what God has given us, enjoying what God has given us, and sharing it with others as God directs us.

    Simplicity is FREEDOM.  Freedom from the worry, anxiety, and responsibility that goes with ownership, materialism and over-scheduling of our lives.

    Simplicity has nothing to do with abundance of possessions or their lack.  It is an inward spirit of trust.  The sheer fact that a person is living without things is not guarantee that he or she is living in simplicity.

    Simplicity is not always going without.  It isn't always living in a hut or wearing worn rags.  However, if that is what God is calling you to do, then obey.

     

    Simplicity is being careful to not justify our selfish desires.

    Simplicity is a life of joyful unconcern for possessions.

    Simplicity is not desiring more than we need.

    Simplicity rejoices in the gracious provision from the hand of God.

    Philippians 4:12    I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry.

  • One of the many joys of homeschooling...

     One of the MANY joys of homeschooling...

    We are studying plants in Science, and the kids LOVE it.  Yesterday the kids and I took a "field trip" and went on a nature hike around our backyard and rural town.  Along the way we found numerous items to bring home and identify by using our field guides.

    What was suppose to be an hour long hike turned out to be 3.5 hours.  We had a few detours along the way.

    It was a blessed afternoon. 

    It was one of my favorite days as a teacher and mother.
